  • learning goals;
  • availability;
  • preferred session format;

6. Online Sessions and Third-Party Video Platforms

NaTakallam’s online sessions currently use approved third-party video-conferencing platforms, including Zoom and Google Meet.

The applicable third-party provider may process certain technical or account information when a user accesses its platform.

Those providers operate under their own privacy terms and policies.

NaTakallam does not control the privacy practices of independent third-party platforms.

NaTakallam does not authorize LPs to independently record, photograph, screenshot, distribute, or otherwise capture child sessions unless expressly authorized.

Where a platform provides recording, transcription, AI, or similar functionality, NaTakallam may establish additional rules regarding whether and how such functionality may be used.

We may send users information about NaTakallam services, programs, events, news, and other activities where permitted by applicable law.

Where applicable law requires consent for marketing communications, we will obtain the necessary consent.

Users may unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe mechanism included in the communication or by contacting [email protected].

Marketing to children

NaTakallam does not knowingly use children’s personal information for targeted behavioral advertising.

We will not knowingly sell children’s personal information.

Where applicable law restricts marketing communications to children or the use of children’s personal information for marketing, NaTakallam will comply with those restrictions.

For child accounts, administrative communications relating directly to the provision of the service may still be sent to the parent, guardian, school, or other authorized adult as appropriate.

8. Children and Minors

NaTakallam knowingly offers certain services to children, including:

  • General Language Sessions for children aged 6 and older; and
  • Integrated Curriculum for children aged 10 and older.

Parent or guardian involvement

For children under 18, NaTakallam may require registration, purchase, and consent by a parent or legal guardian.

Where applicable law requires verifiable parental consent before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information from a child, NaTakallam will obtain the required consent before carrying out the relevant processing.

For children under 13, NaTakallam will comply with applicable requirements under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) and related requirements where they apply. COPPA generally requires covered online services directed to children under 13, or services with actual knowledge that they collect personal information from children under 13, to provide parental notice and obtain verifiable parental consent before covered collection, use, or disclosure.

New York’s Child Data Protection Act also provides additional protections for covered minor users. Among other things, New York law addresses the processing of personal information of minors under 18 and imposes additional requirements for covered processing and processors.

Children’s data minimization

We seek to collect only information reasonably necessary to provide the relevant service, administer the account, maintain safety, comply with legal requirements, or perform another disclosed and lawful purpose.

We do not ask children to provide unnecessary personal information.

Information shared with Language Partners

Information provided to an LP for the purpose of delivering a session should be limited to what is reasonably necessary to provide the educational service.

LPs are not authorized to use children’s information for their own purposes or to establish independent relationships with child students outside NaTakallam.

Parents’ and guardians’ rights

Subject to applicable law, parents or legal guardians may contact NaTakallam to:

  • request access to information concerning their child;

We may need to verify the identity and authority of the person making a request before providing information or taking action.

Children’s own rights

Children may have privacy and data-protection rights in their own right depending on their age and jurisdiction.

NaTakallam will not assume that a parent’s request automatically overrides rights that applicable law gives directly to a minor.

Where personal information is used for research purposes, NaTakallam will take appropriate steps to limit the information used and, where appropriate, de-identify or aggregate it.

12. International Data Transfers

NaTakallam operates internationally and may process personal information in countries other than the country where the information was originally collected.

Where personal information is transferred from the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or another jurisdiction that imposes specific international-transfer requirements, NaTakallam will use an applicable lawful transfer mechanism and appropriate safeguards as required by law.

These safeguards may include applicable standard contractual clauses, adequacy decisions, or another legally recognized transfer mechanism.

NaTakallam does not rely on the obsolete EU-US Privacy Shield framework.

13. Security

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the reason it was collected.

We do not automatically apply a single retention period to all information.

Children’s information

We apply particular care to the retention of information relating to children and seek to retain such information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the relevant educational, administrative, legal, safeguarding, or other lawful purpose.

Where applicable law requires deletion following a valid request, we will delete or anonymize information subject to any lawful exceptions.

15. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including:

  • the right to access personal information;

17. Safeguarding and Disclosure of Information

Privacy protections do not prevent NaTakallam from taking appropriate action to protect a child or another person from harm.

Where NaTakallam receives an allegation, disclosure, or other information suggesting that a child may be at risk, we may process and disclose relevant information where reasonably necessary to:

  • investigate the concern;
  • protect the child or another person;
